Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United
States, is a real estate mogul and reality television personality. He has five
children by three marriages. His political
party affiliation has changed numerous times over the years—from Republican In
the 1980s, to the Reform Party (in 1999), to Democrat (2001-2008), to
Republican (2009-present). He formerly owned Trump
University, a for-profit education company, which folded after numerous fraud
lawsuits. At age 70, he became the oldest and wealthiest person to assume the
presidency, the first without prior military or governmental service, and the
fifth elected with less than a plurality of the national popular vote. On the
Saturday following Trump's inauguration there were massive demonstrations
protesting Trump in the United States and worldwide, with approximately
2,600,000 taking part in Women's Marches. In his first week as
president, Trump signed six executive orders, including one which suspended admission of refugees for 120
days and denied entry to citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries, a ban
which was later found unconstitutional by federal court. Trump does not accept the scientific consensus
on climate change, has called the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) a
"disgrace" and has threatened to cut its budget. Trump vows to build a more substantial wall on
the U.S.-Mexico border to keep out “illegal immigrants.”
