Films About Children in Iran

This Wednesday, August 27, at Hibbleton Gallery, we continue our Introduction to Iranian Cinema with a night devoted to films about children in Iran. Few countries have devoted as much of their cinema to exploring the inner lives of children as Iran. Series curator Steve Elkins will discuss and show clips from "The Color Of God" (1999) by Majid Majidi (director of "Song of the Sparrows" and "Children of Heaven") about a blind boy searching for God through his fingertips.

We will also watch "Turtles Can Fly" (2004), the first film made in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein, about children (including a clairvoyant) responsible for sweeping and clearing mine fields along the Iraqi-Turkish border on the eve of the US invasion, by Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi ("A Time For Drunken Horses").

The screenings begin at 8pm, and are FREE!  Hope to see you there!
