In the Magoski Arts Colony, there are three main galleries and several artist studios. PAS Gallery will be showing work by local artist Dan Joyce in a show entitled Microstars.
Also in the Magoski Art Colony, Hibbleton Gallery will be showing work by Angela Rossi, in a show entitled "Beat Up Creations." Born and bred in Los Angeles, Rossi is a self-taught, outsider artist that works with recycled, abused, broken and forgotten items creating altered antique plates, raw assemblage sculptures and mixed media portraits.
Directly behind Hibbleton Gallery is BOOKMACHINE, Fullerton's only zine store. A zine is an independently-published magazine, featuring art and/or writing. This Friday, BOOKMACHINE features the release of Ted Trager's zine "Twenty Dudes," which features drawings of various men (past and present) whom he finds interesting. Most of the "dudes" are not widely known. Ted's interests are wide, so he draws artists (like Teching Hsieh, Dieter Roth, and Chris Ware), musicians (like Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Ornette Coleman), filmmakers (like David Lynch, Abbas Kiarostami, and Werner Herzog), writers (like Philip K. Dick, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Breece D'J Pancake), and historical figures like Emperor Norton I.
Violethour Studio in the Magoski Arts Colony will feature the work of local artist James Estrada, in a show entitled "Invisible Qualities: A Visual Translation."
Several individual artists will be exhibiting their studio work on Friday, including Valerie Lewis, Leanne Sargeant, Roxanna Mostatabi, Esther Jacks, Patrick Nguyen, Anna Hansen, Ricardo Gonsalves and others! In addition to the Magoski Arts Colony, there are many other amazing venues showing great work. For example...
Studio EMP will be showing the surf photographs of Jack Hudkins...
Roadkill Ranch will be showing work by John Sollom, whom OC Weekly named Best Visual Artist in Orange County!
Artology @ Carpe Diem Experience will feature a show entitled "Set in Stone" with photographs by Sean Scanlon.
Check out the show at Share & Do Good, featuring art by Kam Redlawsk from GreenGreenGrass Illustrations. Her pieces are incredibly moving and will help to fund research for Hereditary Inclusion Body Myopathy, a rare condition that Kam was born with. She inspires me to continue to be passionate and work hard to help others even when obstacles seem too big to overcome.
Unity Salon will feature artwork by my friend Holly Bliss!
Did you know that April is National Poetry Month? This month Tranquil Tea Lounge is featuring limited edition broadside prints created by local designer/artist Jim Cokas. Over the past 10 years Jim created work of some of this generation’s most talented poets. The series being shown is part of the Tuolumne Meadows Poetry Festival, an event that takes place each August in Yosemite National Park. April Fullerton Art Walk begins tomorrow night at 6pm. jimcokas.com. For info on National Poetry Month check out poets.org
