The following is from a series of profiles of notable Fullertonians (past and present) that I am compiling for the Fullerton College Centennial exhibit in 2013. To share your story, please visit: www.fullertoncollegecentennial.com
Matthew Lillard was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1970 but grew up in Tustin, California. He attended Fullerton College and was active in the Theater Department. After Fullerton College, he studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, California.
His most famous acting roles were as Stu Matcher in Scream (1996), Stevo in SLC Punk (1998), Shaggy in Scooby Doo (2002), and more recently in the 2011 film The Descendants, alongside George Clooney.
In 2009, Lillard was a guest at Fullerton College’s High School Theater Festival where he taught a master class to budding actors. In an interview about his experience at Fullerton College, he said, “Fullerton College for me was a huge part of my journey as an actor...the professors treated me like an adult.” He also said that Fullerton College Theater professor Gary Krinke was a “mentor figure.”
