International Comics: Collapse

These are comics from the 1990 International Cartoon Symposium, curated by Sadao Sakai from Japan. This theme of this year was "Collapse." In his introduction to the exhibit, Sakai said that the purpose of the Symposium was to "use the common language of cartoons to talk humorously and candidly about the 21st century." In 1990, the Berlin Wall had just fallen, and there were growing concerns about environmental (and other) threats to the planet. I have divided the comics by country.
