The First Day of Class

I always like the first day of classes at Fullerton College. The campus packed with thousands of students…so much potential. I remember when I was a student here. The first day of class was always exciting.

Today, however, I did encounter a couple discouraging things, as an English teacher. There was a girl wearing a t-shirt that read:

“Who’s world is it?” Anyone with a basic knowledge of grammar and possessive pronouns knows that it should read “Whose world is it?”

Then, I walked past a young man on a cell phone saying to his friend: “I’ll met you at the Brea Mall.” This is a misuse of verb tense. He should have said, “I’ll meet you at the Brea Mall.”

Looks like I might have my work cut out for me this semester.
