How Quickly Good is Forgotten Amidst Scandal

I thought I would weigh in on the whole Anthony Weiner/Wienergate Twitter scandal. While I totally agree that his actions were inappropriate, I think it's sad that this is all most people know about Anthony Weiner. Many people don't know that he championed a health care bill for 9/11 victims. Many people don't know that he has stood up to the Republican party on issues of campaign finance. Anthony Weiner has done, in my opinion, amazingly good and courageous things as a congressman.

Here's are a couple video clips of Wiener speaking against Republicans trying to block a health care bill:

This whole scandal makes me think of a quote I recently read in Les Miserables:

"Merely because of the sentence 'he was a convict' almost everybody abandoned him. In less than two hours all the good he had done was forgotten, and he was 'nothing but a convict.'"

If all you know about Anthony Weiner is this Twitter scandal, then you know very little about Anthony Weiner. Personally, I don't care about his sex life. That has no bearing on me. What I do care about is if he is doing a good job as a congressman. And in that regard, he has done very well.

Here's a challenge, America. When a scandal like this hits, look beyond the major corporate news outlets. Look for the truth.

Personally, I hope Anthony Weiner does not resign. I wish there were more representatives like him--who stood up for average Americans and who stood against corruption and apathy in politics.
