Redemptive Suffering

Many of the artists and writers I love have, at some point in their lives, hit rock bottom--depression, anxiety, some kind of mental or physical suffering that almost breaks them. But they survive, and this season of suffering, and the memory they carry like a scar, makes them into artists. Out of pain crawls beauty.

Artists are not necessarily happy. They are just life-hungry fools. Holy fools.
