Los Angeles Union Station

One of my favorite things about taking the train to Los Angeles is arriving at Union Station downtown, a beautiful building that was built in 1939.  The station is a mash-up of architecture styles, including Spanish Mission Revival, Dutch Colonial Revival, and Streamline Moderne (Art Deco).  Yesterday, I rode the train to LA, and took these photographs of the lovely station.

The only somewhat disturbing thing about Los Angeles Union Station is that it was built atop LA's original Chinatown, which was itself built atop a Native American Village site, most likely the Kizh Tribe, who are the original inhabitants of the Los Angeles basin and north Orange County.  As much as I love trains and train stations, I must also acknowledge that, historically, railroad companies in the United States did some pretty immoral things.
