Brenda Carsey, Anti-Job, and Bellhaunts @ The Continental Room

Last night, because I knew I didn't have to work today, I went out to The Continental Room in Fullerton.    Sunday nights are usually the best nights at "Conti."  On Fridays and Saturdays, they have douchey clubby top 40 DJs, but on Sunday nights, there are usually good local bands, and it's just a good hangout for local musicians.  I like to take my camera, to document the Sunday night musical gems I find.  I was not disappointed this Sunday.

I walked in, and there was a girl alone on stage, playing a keyboard and singing.  I've seen a lot of things here, but solo keyboard is not one of them.  The musician, Brenda Carsey, from the band Feral Kizzy, was really good.  Her songs were soulful, epic, ballads.

Next up was a band called The Anti-Job, featuring a radical female singer who moved and danced to the grooves she was jamming out on both electric and acoustic guitars.  It was kind of funky folk punk danceable jams.

The last band was Bellhaunts, who I love.  I remember the first time I saw them, it was at the Tropics Lounge, a super sketchy dive bar out by the Fullerton Airport.  I think I'd read an interview with them in OC Weekly, and rode my bike to Tropics specifically to see them.  They have a nice fusion of punk and 60s style pop/doo wop.  Viva Bellhaunts!

Jeanette Tomas was the guest DJ, spinnin' groovy tunes, like Shannon & The Clams

And then I started taking pictures of my friends who were there, because good music goes best with good friends.

This is how Troy says hello.  Don't be fooled by his angry exterior.  Troy, who does the sound and books bands, is a real sweetheart.  All in all, it was a fun night at The Continental Room.
