International Comics as Art

These are some comics from the International Cartoon Symposium in 1992. What I love about these comics is that they are radically different from what we, as Americans, have come to expect from comics. They are not silly little diversions. These are made by people often suffering real hardships, thinking deeply about the world, and transforming their pain and bewilderment into comics. They are funny and sincere and devastating. They are art.
